YORK WEIGHT BENCH by York Weight Bench

The bench press has become one of the most popular exercises at the gym and the one people like to brag about the most. "What's your bench max?" is a question you'll probably be asked a lot if you frequent a highly populated gym. So aside from being a great chest workout, the bench press can also make you look good in the eyes of your peers. However, many people might not know that there are other muscles other than the chest that can be used to improve a bench press max.

One of the first places you can start improving the bench press max is by doing the decline bench press. This exercise will allow you to add slightly more weight than the standard bench press as well as working out different parts of your chest, the main muscle used for the bench press. By lifting heavier weight on the decline bench press you will prepare the body for the heavier weight on the flat version.

Although the chest is the main muscle used for the bench press, the back is also very important. During many exercises your back is what stabilizes your body. The bigger and stronger the back becomes, the more stability it can provide for heavier weights. Another good thing about building up your back muscles is that the bigger they are the closer you will be to the starting point of the bar during bench press. This will shorten the range of motion during the exercise itself, allowing you to use more weight.

Another important factor is the position of your legs. If you position them correctly they can provide extra lifting power during the bench press. The key is to bend the knees at slightly less than a 90 degree angle, as if you were going to push your body up the bench. When going for a bench press max you will have a large amount of heavy weight holding the body down, preventing it from sliding up. This will redirect the force from the legs from pushing your body up to helping push the bar up. This technique is only really useful if you have very heavy weight on the bar, otherwise your body might actually move up the bench and throw off your balance.

Yet another important body part often over looked is the rotator cuff. The rotator cuff is made up of four muscles that stabilize your arm bone in the should joint. The more stability you have the more weight you can lift. Regardless of what weightlifting goals you have. you should workout the rotator cuff anyway to strengthen it and reduce the risk of injury. A rotator cuff injury can be one of the most devastating in weightlifting. There are several different exercises for the rotator cuff, choose the ones you like best but be sure to hit it from all angles.

A good technique to use is pinching the shoulder blades together before attempting your bench press max. This will improve stability and stability improves how much weight you can lift. Start off by laying down on the bench and grabbing the bar. Now lift yourself up and pinch your shoulder blades together as much as possible and lower yourself back down. This will put the shoulders in a more stable position as well as making your torso a bit thicker, decreasing the range of motion during the actual bench press.

Yankees What Happened To Our Don?

Joe Torre shockingly announced he will retire from the Los Angeles Dodgers, and hands  the reins to successor Don Mattingly today  with two weeks left in the regular season.

It's a move that caught everyone by surprise considering that the Dodgers may want to interview others such as Tim Wallach, but nevertheless Mattingly is the incoming manager while Torre is nothing but a lame duck on the West Coast.

This offseason is promising to be quite the boiling one when it comes to managers and vacant team openings. As for Joe Torre, where will he end up going next season?

You can bet he'll end up with a big market team with a playoff bound roster that is destined for the World Series. Remember he is retiring from the Dodgers, not baseball, so whether he is or isn't we look at Torre's possible destinations this offseason.

Jacob de Golish/Getty Images

As most Dodgers fans expected, Joe Torre is stepping down as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and hitting coach Don Mattingly will be replacing him.

I don’t know how well Mattingly will do as a manager because he has never managed at any level, but I don’t think it will really matter who the Dodgers' manager is.

Until the chaos of the divorce case between Frank McCourt and his wife, former Dodgers executive Jamie McCourt is resolved, the Dodgers will not be able to improve their lineup.

In today's world, you can build a good nucleus of a team with home grown talent, but if you expect to win a World Series, you have to be able to compete in the free agent market. The Dodgers will not be able to do that until they get new ownership.

For the most part, you can't buy a World Series by simply acquiring the best free agents on the market. But you do have to be able to pull the trigger if someone valuable to your team becomes available.

The Dodgers need at least two reliable starting pitchers and a good closer.  They are also in need of some hitters who can get the big hit with men on base, in addition to someone who can hit the long ball on a regular basis.

There are also rumors that Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp and some of the other Dodgers want to play elsewhere. Can you blame them?

With the whole divorce situation between the McCourts, the Dodgers are fast becoming the Oakland Raiders of Major League Baseball.

School: Back to school shopping ripoffs?

Back to school... already?! by esmereldes

As summer nears its end and we prepare to go back to school, there are several things to start thinking about. Where you will live, which classes you will take, where you will find a job, and, probably the most prominent question, how will I afford everything?

I am entering my senior year of college, and over the past 3 years I have searched all over the place for the cheapest textbooks, best deals on clothes, household supplies, living arrangements, and best jobs, among many other things. Here I will discuss how to find cheap textbooks, so that you can get prepared for the school year without emptying your bank account.

Textbooks. They are one of the top priorities, as you cannot go to class without them, they usually rack up the biggest bill, and most people believe that they are only offered in their school's bookstore. This is where you will pay the absolute highest price for books, at your bookstore. However, practically every college has either a separate, used bookstore or a section of used books in their regular bookstore. Use these! It's simple, convenient, and cheaper. Check these used areas regularly, keeping in mind which books you'll use next semester, or even next year. This alone can save you hundreds a year in textbooks.

The internet also holds many options for you to save money on your textbooks. First of all there are websites such as www.ebay.com, www.amazon.com, and www.overstock.com, which we are all familiar with. But, most people don't know that you can also find great deals on textbooks on these websites. I have been able to find several books for school on these sites, and most of them offer shipping deals if you want to order all of your books at once, or several from the same seller. Another great online resource is www.craigslist.com , where you can find anything from a date, to a car, to a job, including books. You can browse for people selling books, or post a wanted ad for exactly what you want. This works optimally if you are living in a college town and using that craigslist site, where many of the people on there have probably gone to your school and taken the same courses as you. This makes finding the right books on here even easier.

If you have some general education, classics, literature, or philosophy courses that require books other than textbooks, try looking at local thrift stores. You'd be surprised how many great books they end up with. Also try local garage sales, church sales, or estate sales that you come across. If you don't have the time for looking around in garage sales, or would simply rather get all of your books at once, a great place to go is amazon.com. They have a huge variety of just about every book you can imagine, offering both new and used copies (from incredibly low prices) on practically every title. Most of these types of books are also available in places like Borders, Barnes and Noble, Hastings, and Half-Price Books. Borders and Barnes and Noble do have some series of paperback classics and philosophy books, often running under 10 dollars. Half-Price Books is, however, my favorite place to shop for used books. They offer great deals on all types of different books. And, since they have stores in many cities and states, it's easy for me to shop around between the different stores as well as to find what I need for next semester regardless of where I am. They also buy back used books for cash or store credit, so you can save even more money while buying your new books. Go to their website, www.halfpricebooks.com to see if they have locations near you.

Hopefully these tips will help you save money and find cheap textbooks for the school year. Also, don't forget that many loans and scholarships available will help cover school-related expenses, meaning textbooks! This will help you save money for things that they often don't cover, such as food, clothes, and travel expenses.

Buy what you need for the first day of school but don’t buy too much for the rest of the year. Some items, such as pencils and pens, might be useful to stock up on if there is a great sale. But since many stores overstock on items, you may actually be able to find some bargains by scanning for sales after the back to school rush is over.

Did you know

Bf Playing Wii Sports (Baseball) by Vegan Butterfly

It happens to us every day. We're standing at the water cooler, or the bus stop, or in lock down, and some joker struts up and says "How bout that there football game!" For many, this is the opening to a time devouring conversation the likes of which will dwarf all other human interaction for days to come. But then there are those of us who want to throw scalding coffee in their face and scream "I DON'T CARE ABOUT SPORTS YOU CHOWDER-HEAD!"

That's right. I said it. I hate sports and I'm not going to be ashamed of it anymore! I hate the men in skin-tight uniforms. I loathe the childish color schemes, I despise the obnoxious announcers, and I revile the meaningless victories. I would rather stab myself repeatedly in the leg than watch an entire game of football, and football is the mega-sport I hate the least. At least there are massive injuries in football. You don't want to hear what I would do to avoid a game of baseball, or, God help me, cricket.

I am assured in my manliness by my new hobby, watching war. Now there is a real competition. In fact, war was the basis for all forms of sports. Why diddle around with all kinds of namby-pamby rules and safety precautions? When two men fight without trying to kill each other, they just end up groping. Do I need to say it - ass slapping.

Why should I care if San Francisco's burly giant men are going to crush Denver's giant burly men? It's not like the army of San Francisco is going to be pillaging Denver and carrying off its citizens into slavery and prostitution. Now that I would watch! Instead the most we can hope for is that the fans of the winning city will riot and destroy their own town. Which again, seems very backwards to me.

Don't think I'm some sort of sadist. I just think that things should have a point if they're going to consume a massive portion of your brain and your conversational life. War will always be there, like it or not, so we might as well just enjoy the show! You're already rooting for your home team, the good ol' fightin' US of A., so go out there and show your support! If all the fans pull together, I know we can win the World Title this year!
